Welcome to the Marella Scooters "Official"
Scooter Buyer's Guide!
Buying a scooter for the first time can be a
little stressful and sometimes confusing but it
shouldn't be. That's why we are here! At Marella
Scooters, our expertise is listening to our
customers and helping them make the correct
decision of what scooter best fits their needs.
And because we have 5 major brands to choose
from, we can unabashedly help you make that
choice correctly without pushing you on just one
brand. This guide was designed to give you a
little head start before you even set foot in
our showroom. Before we get started there is one
incredibly important point that has to be
made.....
DON'T BUY A CHEAP OFF BRAND SCOOTER!!
Fortunately most people looking for scooters
these days are aware of this but there are a few
that still have to be warned! These scooters are
very tempting because of the lower sale price
but once they break (and they usually do within
the first couple months), no one works on them
and getting parts is almost impossible. We call
those "throw aways" in the scooter world. These
companies come to us all the time and want us to
sell their products but we don't want to! We
would rather sell "real" scooters with
warranties that are extremely reliable and you
can always get parts for. There are about 8
legitimate scooter companies in the world today
including Vespa, Piaggio, Lambretta, Genuine
Scooters, Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha, Kymco, and
Aprilia. Beyond those brands you are taking a
big chance. So take it from us and take a pass
on the cheap Chinese off brand scooters!
Before purchasing a scooter, it is advisable to
check the local laws to determine any additional
requirements or restrictions that should be
taken into consideration. The laws regarding
motor scooters and mopeds are going to vary from
state to state in the US as to licensing,
registration, insurance, etc. Each buyer should
research the individual state’s requirements
before purchasing a scooter. For example, in
some states, such as Idaho and Utah, any size
scooter must be registered and licensed. Other
states, such as many on the east coast have no
additional requirements for scooters. Additional
laws such as a motorcycle endorsement on the
driver’s license may also be required before
driving any scooter on the street.
eBay Motors is a great place to find a motorized
scooter in your area. Individuals, dealerships,
and retailers often use eBay Motors to sell high
quality new and used scooters to both locals and
customers from around the globe. To find the
scooter you are looking for within eBay Motors,
begin by using the search bar to type in a
description of your ideal scooter. For example,
try “150cc Scooter” or “250cc racing scooter.”
If your search yields too many results, try
adding a descriptive word such as a size, color,
or brand. If your search yields too few results,
try to broaden your search by using more general
terms. Narrow your search by items near your zip
code to avoid heavy shipping costs.
Many buyers prefer to buy motor scooters that
are slightly used because purchasing used
scooters is a good way to save money. Just like
the car market, many moped owners sell their new
motor scooters pretty soon after they get them
simply because they change their mind or want a
newer model. When purchasing a used scooter, be
sure to purchase from an educated seller who has
a modicum of scooter knowledge. It is also
advised to narrow your search by zip code to
find scooters near you. If possible, have a
mechanic look over any used scooter to make sure
it’s in good working condition before
purchasing.
Conclusion
The history of gas scooters began with Vespa and
Lambretta, but has emerged to encompass dozens
of styles, models, and manufacturers who have
emerged since the middle part of the twentieth
century. Motorcycles and scooters can be the
answer for many urban dwellers who are looking
to escape rising gas prices, jammed traffic, and
expensive public transportation.
While scooters don’t provide as much protection
or cargo space as a vehicle, they can be a lot
of fun and provide a more engaging travel
experience and get travelers from point A to
point B in a safe and efficient method. Scooters
are a growing trend and buyers are looking to
purchase high quality new and used scooters at
local retailers as well as online sites such as
eBay Motors. Quality can vary greatly from one
scooter brand and model to another so it is
important for buyers to conduct the research and
consider all the options available before making
a purchasing decision.
